Essay in backbiting

The very expression “backbiting” speaks for itself. One talks about other peoples’ sins—or what one judges to be sin— behind their back instead of going directly to them and asking them if what is being said or presumed is really true.

” It originated from the improper attack from the back in the sport of bearbaiting (1). The word in Arabic is pronounced as “Ghibah. ” Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) defined Gibah as “Your mentioning your brother with something about him that he dislikes. ” Islam considers backbiting as one of the major sins that a muslim person must not commit (2).

In every society, backbiting is considered as a sin and it should be because talking wrong about someone behind his back is never a good sign. It destroys his image and if he is talking bad about another person than its definitely going to ruin his image also. It is liking provoking wrath in other people so that he does something wrong also.

To speak unfavorably or slanderously of a person who is not present. This is one of the most wicked and ungodly evils to be found in this evil world. Yet, despite this, most people have a shamefully poor understanding of how evil backbiting actually is, even though the Scriptures are very clear on this point.
